Welcome to Blue Mountains City Library for 2012
We look forward to seeing you when we re-open in a couple of days – 3rd January 2012.
2012 will be a big year at Blue Mountains Libraries so keep an ear to the ground and an eye on this blog and Along the Highway in the Blue Mountains Gazette for news of events throughout the year.
2012 has been designated National Year of Reading.
With about 46% of Australians not having the literacy skills to meet the most basic demands of everyday life and work (that means being unable to read newspapers; follow a recipe; make sense of timetables, or understand the instructions on a medicine bottle), Australian libraries and library associations are working together to promote all the great things that are already happening around books, reading and literacy, and giving them an extra boost, with inspirational programs and events taking place across the country.
Blue Mountains Library staff have created a Love2Read Committee and we have been working on special children’s and adult events, storytimes for children and adults, library tours, poetry events, book groups, competitions and more . . .

In early 2012 we are implementing a new library system. It is called Symphony and will mean a sleeker, more up-to-date, 21st century library catalogue for our customers and we are all pretty excited about it.
You may have to be a little patient with us as we learn all the features there are to offer.
New Library at Katoomba
Late 2012 will see the opening of the new Cultural Centre and Katoomba Library.
Again staff have already been working hard on planning a smooth transition and we are all looking forward to a larger, more amenable, (less soggy) facility.
Just wait till you see the views!
