Light in Winter

(Via email from the National Year of Reading team)

As the Light in Winter in Melbourne’s Federation Square comes to an end, we’d like to mention two very special events held during the month long festival. Reading in Bed, with Alison Lester as the guest reader, was part of an appeal for The Salvation Army, with some 150 blankets donated to help those doing it tough this winter. The Solstice celebration saw 1,000 handmade lanterns cradled in the hands of visitors of all ages. There were readings, calligraphy, dance, light, drumming, Turkish delight and herbal tea on offer. Congratulations to our ambassador Robyn Archer and the Federation Square team for a fabulous festival – all about books, reading and enlightenment.
