Here are some photos from Blue Mountains City Library’s Reading Hour which was held on Saturday 25 August in the library of the Carrington Hotel, Katoomba. Some 40 people joined us in the library between 6pm and 7pm on that chilly evening and read their books and iPads and other devices or played The Great Penguin Book Chase game (we were reading the instructions and the questions).
After 7pm those present were asked to share what they were reading with small excerpts from their books and it was wonderful to hear the diverse reads people were enjoying. The evening ended with a recitation of The Green Eye of the Little Yellow God by J Milton Hayes from Local Studies Librarian, John Merriman.
The Reading Hour is an initiative of the National Year of Reading. We aren’t sure if they are going to repeat it but we enjoyed it so much we are thinking of making it an annual event. Watch this space . . .
Like the attendees on Saturday night, you can share your reading by writing what book you read for Reading Hour on one of the book spines we have at each library branch and sticking it on to the book shelf there.
