Surprise!

Books and water don’t usually mix but yesterday Springwood Aquatic Centre was the venue for Blue Mountains City Library’s first Pop-Up Library.

We had books, comics, magazines and DVDs for people of all ages to borrow from the Pop-Up LIbrary. There were bags, balloons and magnets to give away as well as lots of information about what you can get when you are in the Library, and what you can use from the comfort of your own home or office as well as Children’s programs and the Library newsletter.

After their swimming lessons, many of the young families at the Aquatic Centre came over to see what we were up to. The children especially enjoyed sitting down and having a read, and were delighted to take a few books home with them as well as a balloon. The parents and grandparents found something for themselves too.

The idea of the Pop-Up Library is to promote the Library to people who don’t normally visit a library and who may not know all the good stuff that you can borrow and all the great programs we offer. The thing about borrowing from the Pop-Up Library is that these loans are that they are rule-free – you don’t need a Library card and you just pop the items back to one of our Library branches when you want to, or keep them and share them with your family and friends.

We will be popping up in unexpected places a few times over the next six months or so. If you see us don’t be shy, come and say hello!
