StrokeSafe Talk

Stroke Safe-ed

Blue Mountains City Library is hosting a free StrokeSafe talk; a time-efficient way to learn lifesaving stroke prevention and awareness messages, such as how to recognise the signs of stroke.

The talk will be held on Wednesday 10th September, 2014 at 10.30am until 11.30am, at Blaxland Library.

Stroke is a blood clot or bleed in the brain that starves brain cells of oxygen and causes parts of the brain to die. The common condition is a leading cause of death and serious disability, with 1 in 6 people suffering from a stroke in their lifetime – a third of whom die from it.

StokeSafe Ambassador and speaker Ross Waldron says stroke touches us all in some way; whether it is personally, through a family member, friend or colleague.Mr Waldron about stroke, prevention and the need to get immediate treatment at the first sign of a stroke.

“The StrokeSafe Ambassador program aims to make sure that people understand stroke is a medical emergency and fast treatment is vital to survival and recovery,” said Dr Lalor. “Everyone should be able to know and recognise the signs of stroke.”

Use “FAST” to remember and recognise the signs of stroke:
Face – Has the person’s mouth drooped?
Arms – Can they lift both arms?
Speech – Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?
Time – Time is critical. If you see any of these signs, call triple zero (000) immediately

Bookings are appreciated for this event and can be made by contacting staff at any Library branch, or by calling Blaxland Library on 4739 4284.
