Are you looking for an out of this world experience of a different kind? Then head to Katoomba Library to hear poetry read aloud under the starry canopy of the Blue Mountains’ skies. Blue Mountains City Library is hosting Poetry Under the Stars on Friday 28 November between 6pm and 8.30pm in the Cultural Centre Courtyard.
This annual event, which is now in its third year, is a fun and inspiring occasion for all ages, so bring the family and friends, a cushion to sit on and a picnic to enjoy. Lay back as night falls and listen as the talented local poets read their original works, and local musicians set the mood.
Poetry Under the Stars is a showcase of exciting local talent, and an essential on the local calendar. The line-up features the quirky humour of Sandy Holmes (also M.C.), cheeky poems by Milton Taylor, contemporary wisdom of Kate Fagan, and new poetry by Elouisa West, Peter Kuypers, and Simon Lenthen. As well as these wonderful featured poets, there will be a host of guest poets performing one or two of their original pieces, providing an eclectic mixture of the hilarious, fun and sophisticated.
There will also be an open mike session where anyone can register to read their own poem (registrations will be taken on the night from 6pm). This year will feature a special kids poetry segment to start the night for poetry’s youngest fans.
In case of wet weather this event will be held in the beautiful surroundings of Katoomba Library and, yes, food and drink are still welcome!
