After the storm
We hope everyone is OK after the storm yesterday, especially those shops and businesses in Springwood that suffered storm damage. Thanks to the SES for supporting our community once again.
Several Council facilities and services were affected by the storm. Worst hit was Springwood Library where the ceiling collapsed with damage to books and the new carpet ruined. Luckily the Library has been closed since Monday due to the final phase of the Blue Mountains Theatre & Community Hub building works but it will take a lot of work to repair.
The Library has been deemed unsafe for staff to work in so we have had no access to the collections and we don’t know when we will be able to get into the library and start the clean up.
Please be patient if you have requested items from Springwood Library – they may be delayed in getting to you.
Blaxland Library had some water damage to the self-checkout machine, however the library is open and functional.
The Leisure Centres were also affected – Katoomba had to cancel Learn to Swim & Aquatic Fitness classes yesterday due to the power blackout and at Springwood Fitness and Aquatic Centre the telephone & IT systems are still down BUT the Centre is OPEN FOR BUSINESS AS USUAL.
Council’s Springwood depot sustained flood damage, which may cause some delay to scheduled maintenance work in the Lower Mountains as a result.
With more storms predicted please be prepared
